Aim:
To gain the necessary skills for dog and handler team to achieve operational standard for Passive drugs search dogs, as defined by National Police Dog assessment model.
Objectives:
The Handler:
- Pre-search preparation and post search actions
- Control of the dog on / off leash
- Safe system of search with the dog,
- Working in a team in a support role (Handlers Observer)
- Safe handling of explosive training aids, explosive recognition.
- IED & Components recognition
- Safe and practical application of procedures following a find
- Management and awareness of occupational stress
- Current legislation, evidence management, Health and safety
- Records of operation and working with other agencies
The Dog:
- Instant response to handlers commands both on and off leash
- How to search and indicate presence of explosives for which it has been trained
- How to ignore reasonable distractions caused by noise, movement and non target odours.
Course Content:
Practical and theoretical development of all above criteria.
In addition throughout the course the student will receive tuition and advice on many aspects to assist with their future employment, whether in the UK or abroad, including operations in hostile environments
The course has a continual assessment thread and at the end there is a written exam and a practical assessment. These are run to the accepted Home Office (ACPO) standard and the team will be accredited, if up to standard.
The courses are designed to meet the current draft of the soon to be instigated ‘National Operating Standard’(NOS) and will be amended where required to meet or exceed the final approved standard, when it is published. All costs are based on course at Acrosec UK facility in North West Of England and do not include accommodation. For course based at Client's facility additional costs of Instructor(s) travel and accommodation must be added.

- Safe and practical application of procedures following a find
- Management and awareness of occupational stress
- Current legislation, evidence management, Health and safety
- Records of operation and working with other agencies

- How to search and indicate presence of drugs in buildings, vessels, vehicles and routes
- How to ignore reasonable distractions caused by noise, movement and non target odours

Advanced Search Handler Course

Aim:
A course designed for an experienced handler and develops their skills as a manager of resources (including dogs) and equips the student o be able to assess potential venue, prepare for, plan, and run and manage complex multi resource searchs utilising a team and to be able to complete the relevant documentation recording the search
Objectives: On completion participants will be able to demonstrate

- Planning, briefing & de-briefing
- Structural and vulnerability assessment
- Methods of search for a large search Area, vehicle, building, vessels, aircraft, Routes (offensive, defensive
- How to operate dog in a systematic Search
- Management of other handlers & dogs in a search
- Safe handling of drugs, Explosive and weapon training aids
- Safe and practical application of procedures following a find
- Evidence preservation
- Narcotics / Explosives and components recognition.
- Management and awareness of occupational stress
- Current legislation, evidence management, Health and safety
- Records of operation and working with other agencie
The Dog:
- Instant response to handlers commands both on and off leash
- How to search and indicate presence of drugs in buildings, vessels, vehicles and routes
- How to ignore reasonable distractions caused by noise, movement and non target odours
Course Content:

General Purpose / Patrol Dog Handler Course

Aim:
A course designed to prepare a handler to look after and operate safely with a general purpose guard / patrol dog the course includes relevant legislation and health and safety instruction. However we are keen to ensure the courses best suit the handler and dog and the operation environment in to which they deliver. Accordingly we tailor the courses as required.
However a basic general course would normally be xxx Days and include all the basic requirements for a handler to care for and maintain their dog, the skills the require to operate the dog in given environments. Input includes legislation and health and safety in relation to the role of the GP handler.
